Röttgersbach is a district of Duisburg in the Hamborn district with 12,133 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016).

history

The district was created in 1975 from the eastern part of the Fahrn district , the western part of which is now part of the Walsum district. The area used to belong to the Hamborn district , which was merged with the Duisburg district in 1929.

The name giver for this district was the Röttgersbach . This brook, coming from the Oberhausen district of Holten in the Fahrn district, used to flow into the Elperbach. The Elperbach flowed into the Rhine with the former Schwelgern farmers . Today these two and many other streams in the region are only known as the " Emscher ", as they are used by the Emschergenossenschaft as a sewage system. In the district are the Revierpark Mattlerbusch , the Jubiläumshain, the St. Hildegard Church, the St. Barbara Church and the WoGe-Hamborn.

Churches in Röttgersbach

St. Barbara - The Catholic parish of St. Barbara was founded in 1909. Today's church building, however, dates from 1952. Initially, the parish of St. Barbara belonged to the diocese of Münster, but was later added to the newly founded diocese of Essen. As a parish church, St. Barbara has belonged to the St. Johann parish since 2015. Since September 2015 the diocese of Essen has not provided any church tax funds for the maintenance of the church. As an episcopal pilot project, the church and parish are financed and administered by a development association with a new parish concept.
