history

The early medieval knight's seat Hoffmannshof was on what is now the area of the district .

The district has only existed in its current form since January 1, 1975. As part of the regional reform , the new district of Röttgersbach was created from parts of Obermarxloh and Fahrns. For example, the Evangelical Luther Church of the Obermarxloh parish, built in 1913, is now in the area of Röttgersbach.

Location

In the north, the district is crossed by the Im Holtkamp street and the Oberhausen – Wesel rail freight line from Röttgersbach, in the southeast by Obere Sterkrader Strasse and Gerlingstrasse by Neumühl , in the southwest by Duisburger Strasse from Alt-Hamborn and in the northwest by the former railroad Grillowerke delimited from Marxloh . Almost half of the area of Obermarxloh is made up of the poets' quarter built by Thyssen in the years 1900–1918 . The Dichterviertel is the largest coherent workers' settlement in Duisburg and has since been completely renovated. Around 6,000 people live in the poet's quarter today. The Hamborner Bahnhof on Markgrafenstrasse, built in 1912, is also located in Obermarxloh. The building is now a listed building and is largely unused. The railway line is only operated in freight traffic. The ball sports club VfB Obermarxloh 2016 eV, founded on March 9, 2016, plays its games on the district sports facility of SV Hamborn 1890 on the border with the neighboring district of Neumühl .
