Johann "Hennes" Sabath (born June 4, 1939 in Duisburg - Hamborn ) is a former German soccer player who from 1963 to 1969 played 117 games in the Bundesliga with MSV Duisburg and scored six goals.

career

The DFB recognized the talent of the young Hamborn player in 1957 and used him in the German national youth team . "Hennes" Sabath made his debut in the DFB selection on March 31st in Oberhausen in the international match against England. In the impressive 4-1 victory, he stormed the right wing. In April he was a member of the DFB delegation for the 1957 UEFA youth tournament in Spain. He played on April 16 in Madrid in a 2-2 draw against Poland at the side of half-forward Günter Herrmann , the defender pair was formed by Fritz Pott and Karl-Heinz Schnellinger .

Sabath's contract playing career began in 1957/58 with Sportfreunde Hamborn 07 in the Oberliga West . The "lions" rose with 17:41 points as bottom of the table in the 2nd division. The young player had completed ten appearances in the major league. After relegation, he played briefly at SV Hamborn 1890 in the third-class association league Niederrhein , but returned to Hamborn 07 before being promoted again. After returning to the league in 1959/60, only four more league appearances were added. With his teammates Werner Rinass , Horst Podlasly and Rolf Schafstall he finished seventh in the 1960/61 round and had established himself in the league with 21 appearances and eight goals. In the penultimate league year, 1961/62, he was in a further 21 league games with six goals for the sports fans in use. From 1957 to 1962 he completed 56 games with 14 goals in the Oberliga West for Sportfreunde Hamborn and then joined the Meidericher SV for the 1962/63 round . In the last year of the old first-class league, 1962/63, he took third place with the "Zebras". Meiderich was accepted into the new Bundesliga and Sabath had represented Meiderich's colors in 17 league games. The defender celebrated his greatest sporting successes in the 1960s with Meidericher SV . In the first season of the newly founded Bundesliga 1963/64 , Sabath and MSV were runner-up behind 1. FC Köln , and in 1966 he and his team lost the DFB Cup final against FC Bayern Munich 2: 4. Johann Sabath played for MSV Duisburg until 1969 and then moved to the Regionalliga West for VfL Bochum . He made a total of 117 appearances in the Bundesliga and scored six goals. At the end of his career he played for the amateur league club 1. FC Bocholt in the Lower Rhine regional league. In 2014 the documentary Meidericher Vizemeister appeared , in which he and other team members reported on the 1963/64 runner-up season.
