The FC Germania Metternich is a football club from the Koblenz district Metternich . The association was founded on April 10, 1912 in Oberdorfstrasse in Koblenz-Metternich.
history
In 1956, Germania Metternich qualified for the amateur league Rhineland for the first time and won the championship title in the following season. The club played in the second division in the 1957/58 season , but had to be relegated again. In the two following seasons Metternich was again champion, but it was not until the second year that the desired promotion was achieved. The return to the 2nd league was crowned with an excellent fourth place in the first season of 1960/61 , but in 1963 Germania missed qualifying for the newly founded regional league with tenth place in the table. As relegated to the amateur league Rhineland, the club won the championship again in 1964 and thus played in the 1964/65 season in the Regionalliga Südwest , the second highest division in men's football. Another relegation and promotion followed, before Germania Metternich was beaten in 1966/67 and had to relegate again without winning the season. In the first amateur league , the club held from 1967 to 1972, then followed as the table penultimate the fall in the district league. After the introduction of the Oberliga Südwest in 1978, Germania returned for two years from 1983 to 1985 in the now only fourth-class amateur league. After a year-long stint in 1994/95, the club managed to return to the Rhineland amateur league in 1997 as champions of the district league. In the 1999/00 season, Germania Metternich was finally champion of the Rhineland League in front of Eintracht Trier's reserve , so in the 2000/01 season they played in the Oberliga Südwest , which is now the fourth-highest division. However, the club rose again after only one year and finally rose after two more years in the Rhineland League to the district league center. Metternich last reached the runner-up in 2010 and 2011, and fourth place in 2012 and 2013. In the 2014/15 season they took first place in the end, but two teams were tied, so a playoff for promotion to the Rhineland League had to decide. This won the SG 99 Andernach in Mülheim-Kärlich in front of 2,200 spectators with 2: 1. In the following years, Germania was runner-up four times (2016 to 2019).
The club was six times Rhineland champion and is thus record holder, 1968 Rhineland Cup winner, 1st Southwest German amateur champion, twice City Cup winner and was a participant in the final of the German amateur championship .
The association is socially committed and, in addition to its 13 youth and three senior teams, cooperates with the Kaul-Quappen daycare center and the Metternicher Theresiahaus as part of a senior care concept. In addition, he organizes various football camps, also in cooperation with the Koblenzer Rhein-Zeitung and the AC Milan Youth Academy.
