Hoffmannshof

The Hoffmannshof (also on the farm and, according to the respective owners, Gut zur Mühlen , Kronenhof and Borgardshof ) was a medieval mansion in what is now Duisburg 's Obermarxloh district, Hamborn .

location

The farm was north of the Beeckbach, northeast of the Hamborn Abbey on the corner of today's Duisburger Strasse and Kampstrasse, where the Clauberg grammar school is now.

history

Until 1817 the estate was only known as the farm , which is generally regarded as an indication of a very old age, as the farm was obviously the only farm in the area at that time. A land map from 1734 suggests that the courtyard used to be in the form of a moated castle. The map shows a circular area with a house surrounded by water. The weir system was proven by excavations in 1969 and 1970. Foundations of an early medieval castle complex with a double moat were found; also shards from the 8th and 9th centuries.

At the time the Hamborn Abbey was founded, the Knights of Mühlen ( milites de Mulne , 1258 and 1292) sat on this fortress . These had the estate from the Lords of Hochstaden-Wickrath as a fief. Around 1300 the Counts of Kleve took over the feudal sovereignty. In 1330 the feudal bearer Konstantin Crone-Hiesfeld from the noble family of the Lords of Hiesfeld sold the farm to the Hamborn monastery. After the seller, the farm was called Cronenhof until 1616 (at the same time also on the farm ). The court owners were given the name Hoffmann , Latinized Hofius .

When Hermann Borgards from Fahrn ( Duisburg-Walsum ) married into the owner family in 1817 , he initially carried the name Borgards called Hoffmann . The name Borgardshof became established for the farm , later Scherrershof . In 1852 the courtyard was given a new building. In 1967 the last house to be demolished to make way for the Clauberg High School.
