Sabine Katharina Weiss (* 26. May 1958 in Duisburg - Hamborn ) is a German politician of the CDU from Dinslaken , Wesel , and since the 2009 election directly elected Member of Parliament of the constituency Wesel I . She is Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Health in the Merkel IV cabinet .

education and study

After attending the Episcopal Abbey Gymnasium and Leibniz Gymnasium in Duisburg-Hamborn and graduating from high school, he studied law at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After passing the state examination , Weiss worked as a lawyer in Duisburg-Hamborn and later in Dinslaken.

Political career

After joining the CDU, she became chairwoman of the Duisburg CDU local association in Obermarxloh and then also deputy chairwoman of the CDU district association in Duisburg. From 1989 to 1998 she was a member of the Hamborn district council and chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group.

In 1994 she was defeated by an internal party nomination for the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1995 around the constituency of Duisburg-Hamborn / Walsum against Adolf Sauerland , who later became the mayor of Duisburg.

In 1996 Weiss moved to the CDU in Dinslaken , where she was nominated as her party's candidate for the 1999 mayoral election. In the local elections in August 1999 , Sabine Weiss achieved an absolute majority against the previous incumbent Wilfrid Fellmeth. In September 2004 she was also re-elected in the first ballot with a clear majority in front of her SPD challenger. Since this local election, however, the CDU no longer has a majority in the city council.

In May 2008 she announced that she would run for the German Bundestag in the Wesel I constituency as the successor to Ilse Falk . The previous chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the city council of Dinslaken, Heinz Wansing, was to run for the office of mayor in the 2009 local elections. However, this was subject to the SPD candidate Michael Heidinger . Sabine Weiss won the direct mandate on September 27, 2009 in the Wesel I constituency . There she is a deputy member of the committees for labor and social affairs as well as economic cooperation and development and a full member of the petitions committee. She has been an elected member of the CDU federal executive committee since 2012. Since the summer of 2012, Weiss, together with twelve other Union Members of the Bundestag, has been campaigning publicly for tax equality for registered same-sex partnerships with marriage .

On January 13, 2014, Weiss became deputy chairwoman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group , where she was responsible for labor and social issues as well as economic cooperation and development.

Since March 15, 2018, Weiss has been Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Health.

Other engagement

As a young lawyer, she founded the association “ Pangasinan e. V. “, with which she helps the village of Palapar Norte in the city of Malasiqui in the Philippine province of Pangasinan. Over the years, agricultural projects and schooling and vocational training for the poor village population have been supported. In 2000 and 2001 she succeeded in sending medical equipment, furnishings and material for a hospital to Malasiqui, so that the first hospital in the city of 113,000 could be opened there.
