The Bergmannsplatz settlement is a listed colliery colony in Duisburg - Neumühl and is now part of the Route of Industrial Culture .

overview

The settlement was built between 1907 and 1909 by the Neumühl colliery . It consists of 15 different house types grouped around a square. There is still a bunker in the center of the square. Each of the houses has a garden and a front yard. After a mountain subsidence that had damaged many houses in the settlement, the entire settlement was up for grabs in the 1970s. After massive protest by residents, the aspects of local history and monument protection prevailed after 1975 , so that the settlement was preserved with partial demolition of the damaged buildings and was renovated. In 1996 the settlement was placed under protection as a monument and then provided with a design guide.
