Route of industrial culture - Rhenish mining route
The Rhenish mining route is the 17th themed route and is part of the German themed route “ Route of Industrial Culture ”. On it, the typical mining facilities for the Ruhr area such as collieries , miners' settlements , operating devices and heaps are presented. Historically, mining in the Rhineland is younger than mining in Westphalia , as the coal-bearing seams are deeper here and mining was only possible with the use of the steam engine for dewatering .
