Pattberg dump
The stockpile Pattberg is a former slag heap of coal mine Pattberg in Moers Repelen. At first it was named after the nearest town: Halde Moers-Repelen .
history
The backfilling of the heap by the mine began in 1962 and lasted over 20 years. The dump covers an area of 48 hectares and has a plateau at a height of around 75 meters. There is a summit cross visible from afar .
The Ruhrkohle AG had planned the spoil heap as terraced Table Mountain. While the dump was being filled in, the landscaping concept was implemented, and greening and renaturation were carried out. Today the dump is part of the NiederRhein landscape park , the route of industrial culture and the center of the Niederrhein tree circle .
A kite festival was held regularly on the stockpile until 2007 . After a year break, the organizers relocated the 2009 kite festival to the Rheinpreußen dump .
A concept developed jointly by the city of Moers and the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) provides for the Pattberg dump to be designed as a mysterious dragon mountain in the future . In October 2010, however, plans became known to build wind turbines on the Pattberg heap. In a statement, the city of Kamp-Lintfort rejected the erection of the wind turbine in November 2012. However, the authorizing authority is the Wesel district.
Radio amateurs have been using the exposed location of the mine dump for field day competitions on shortwave and ultra-shortwave since the early 1980s . With only five watts of transmission power on shortwave, worldwide radio connections to Argentina, the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia as well as to the Neumayer 3 research station in Antarctica and the international space station ISS are established here. The Pattberg dump has the mining activity number DL118 for the mining and amateur radio project .
