The Route of Industrial Culture by Bike is a network of cycle paths with a total length of around 700 km, with which the sights of the Route of Industrial Culture are made accessible to cyclists.

The core of the cycle path network is made up of the two long-distance cycle paths Emscher Park cycle path (225 km long, inside the Ruhr area ) and the Ruhr region circuit (350 km long, on the outer edge of the Ruhr region), the latter running over long stretches in the south identical to the Ruhr Valley cycle path . The long-distance cycle paths are supplemented by signposted connections, the so-called R-paths (e.g. R10, R27, R31) and other cycle paths such as the HOAG-Trasse , Erzbahn or the Green Path . The network of paths mostly leads over forest, farm and bank paths, over former railway lines and roads with little traffic. Gradients differ greatly depending on the location in the Ruhr area, from practically zero on the canals to very low on the railway lines to strong ones on the edge of the Sauerland.

There is a connection in the north to the Römerroute , the 100-Schlösser-Route , the cycle route on the Dortmund-Ems Canal , in the east to the Hellweg route , in the south to the Kaiser route and the Lenneroute and in the west to the Rhine cycle route .

Detailed maps with individual descriptions of the route sections and the attractions are available in bookshops and in the visitor center at the Zeche Zollverein in Essen . The Ruhr Regional Association is the operator of the cycle path network . He also provides GPS tracks for the main routes.
