Industrial Heritage Route - Parks and Gardens
Theme route 23: RIK parks and gardens |
Gardens and parks is the name of theme route 23 of the Route of Industrial Heritage . Gardens, park landscapes, public gardens and squares designed with green areas have been created since the 19th century by the up-and-coming cities, by civic associations but also by industrial companies as recreational areas, representative objects and meeting places, cemeteries have been converted into quiet islands, and leisure facilities with games and entertainment options have been created.
In this themed route there are exemplary examples of the different forms in the Ruhr area: Vonderort can be found from the Revierparks , the Villa Hügel park ("Hügelpark") is representative, and city gardens are represented by the Bochum city park, among others. Several spa parks show how the desire for health was shaped. The structural change is evident in the redesign of areas that were formerly used industrially, but historical buildings are also represented as the core of new leisure facilities. Until mid-2012, the term "historical" was also used in the route description.
