The Botanical Garden Duissern is located at the foot of the Kaiserberg in Duisburg - Duissern not far from the Duisburg Zoo . The visit is possible all year round and free of charge.

The first mention of the botanical garden is in an administrative report of the city of Duisburg in 1890. It was created by the Duisserner Beautification Association as a natural history park . In the two following years, the site was expanded to around two hectares, a water lily pool was built and an alpine garden was laid out. Even today, the focus is on the Alpinum and the Heidegarten , the pond with goldfish and water lilies has also been preserved. There are also areas with medicinal and aromatic plants (apothecary garden ), rose beds and a natural garden. You can also find sequoias or ginkgos .

The main entrance is on Schweizer Straße, which is why and because of the Alpinum it is also called the Botanical Garden Schweizer Straße .

From 1893 seeds and parts of plants from the park were exchanged with other botanical gardens and an annual seed directory was published.

Large parts of the garden were destroyed in the Second World War, after which it was initially used as grave land and rebuilt by 1956.

Art events, concerts, readings and botanical tours also take place in the park.

The city of Duisburg has been renovating the garden since 2012. The work will take place in two construction phases, the facility will remain open to visitors. Measures include the new construction of the beehive and seating area, the revision of the ponds, new planting and reorganization of beds. The redesign of the main entrance has largely been completed.
