Brine, steam and coal is the title of the tenth themed section of the Route of Industrial Culture , because salt works , steam power and hard coal mining are part of the industrial history in the east of the Ruhr area , primarily in the Unna district . The first steam engine in the Ruhr area was operated here, even before it was used for dewatering in coal mining, here you can particularly observe the northern migration of mining from the Ruhr area into the Münsterland, here the greatest expansion is achieved towards the east and marked with the light show at the east pole . The central point of entry into the route is the Linden brewery in Unna .

At the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012, the operator RVR revised the route considerably, the changes are shown in italics .
