Settlements of the Saxony mine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The settlements of the Sachsen colliery are located in the Hammer district of Heessen around the colliery of the same name.

The Zeche Sachsen started coal mining in 1912 and two years later already had 500 employees. In the course of a few years, three colliery colonies were created for the miners' families. Alfred Fischer was the architect for all construction work , he also designed the colliery's surface facilities. The city of Hamm has issued design statutes for all settlements .

Old colony

The first colony, which was later renamed the Old Colony ( coordinates ), was built between 1912 and 1923 directly to the north of the colliery area. It comprised around 75 one and a half storey one or two family houses with large gardens for self-sufficiency.

New colony

During the First World War, the second, the New Colony ( coordinates ) began; the construction period lasted from 1916 to 1920. It is located further west of the colliery area, comprises around 600 apartments and was reached via Vogelsang Street.

Vogelsang

The Vogelsang settlement ( coordinates ) was created between 1920 and 1921 on the connecting route between the old and new colony northwest of the Saxony dump . The settlement and the road were named after Karl Vogelsang , the head of the mountain and huts director of the Mannsfeld copper slate building union , who was murdered by rebel workers during the riots in Eisleben that followed the Kapp Putsch. The settlement comprises over 200 apartments, which are grouped together in larger units. The gardens, some of which are separated from the apartments, are unusual for colliery settlements. While the other two colonies lost their original character through renovations after privatization, the Vogelsang colony has largely been preserved. It is part of the route of industrial culture .
