Geographical location

The community is located in the northern part of the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln nature park between Minden and Hameln on the western foothills of the Bückeberg .

In clockwise direction, these are the municipalities of Bad Eilsen and Buchholz , the city of Rinteln and the municipality of Luhden . There is a contiguous locality to Bad Eilsen.

history

The oldest surviving documentary mention as Hesen in the Calenberg document book dates back to 1284. The name is explained from Haus des Hasso or Hesso . Further names were 1303 de Hessenhusen , 1387 to Hezensen and Hetzensen , 1393 Hesensen , 1412 Hessenssen , 1465 to Hesenhusen , 1550 Heißensenn , 1559 Heßensen and 1640 Heißen .

In 1871 Heeßen became a rural community. Administratively, the place belonged to the Vogtei and Amt Arensburg until 1884, which in 1885 became part of the Bückeburg-Arensburg district administration. From 1899 to April 1948, the Bückeburg district was responsible. In April 1948, the Schaumburg-Lippe district became the legal successor.

On March 1, 1974, the municipalities of Heeßen, Ahnsen, Bad Eilsen, Buchholz and Luhden merged to form the integrated municipality of Eilsen and in 1977 were incorporated into the newly formed district of Schaumburg .
