geography

location

The municipality is located near the border with North Rhine-Westphalia west of the Schaumburg Forest directly on the Mittelland Canal . The Riehe flows through the municipality .

Neighboring communities

In clockwise direction, neighboring communities are Meerbeck , Stadthagen , Helpsen and Seggebruch and Bückeburg .

Districts

The districts of the municipality are Hespe, Hiddensen, Levesen and Stemmen. The desert of Etze still lies in the municipality .

history

The district of Hiddensen was first mentioned in a document in 1223 as Hiddenhusen, and Levesen then in 1260 as Lezeshusen. Hespe was created in the 16th century as a side village of Hiddensen.

On March 1, 1974, the municipality of Hespe was newly formed through the merger of the municipalities of Hespe-Hiddensen, Levesen and Stemmen.

religion

All districts were assigned to the newly formed Evangelical Lutheran parish Seggebruch in 1913/1914. The places Levesen and Stemmen belonged to the collegiate parish of Obernkirchen until then . Hespe and Hiddensen belonged to the parish of Meerbeck.

Mayor / Administration

Werner Vehling (SPD) held the office of mayor for 42 years. His successor was Uwe Grone in 2016. Together with the community director Kerstin Hamelberg, he is responsible for the community of Hespe. The municipal administration is located in the Hespe district, Dorfstrasse 25.

education

A kindergarten is available for pre-school education. The primary school is run by the joint community. Secondary schools are located in Helpsen, Obernkirchen, Stadthagen and Bückeburg.

traffic

The Bad Nenndorf and Bad Eilsen junctions of the BAB 2 can be reached via the federal highway 65 to the west . The nearest train station is in Kirchhorsten , a part of the neighboring municipality of Helpsen. The public transport is provided by the bus company Rottmann & Spannuth from Bückeburg with the line RSO 24/28.
