About this picture

The municipality of Beckedorf is located in the Schaumburg district and is a member municipality of the Lower Saxony joint municipality of Lindhorst .

geography

location

Beckedorf is located on the northern edge of the Bückeberg , directly on the federal highway 65 between Stadthagen and Bad Nenndorf in the Schaumburg district in Lower Saxony . In the north, the district is affected by the Hanover - Ruhr area railway line .

structure

In addition to the Beckedorf shaft (with the deviating postcode 31698), which is used as a living space and company premises, the municipal area also includes three houses in the Eichenbruch near Kobbensen.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are the cities of Bad Nenndorf and Rodenberg , the municipality of Apelern , the city of Stadthagen and the municipalities of Heuerßen and Lindhorst, starting in the northeast .

geology

The place is located directly on the border between the Bückeberg mountains, which belong to the greater natural region of the Lower Saxon-Hessian mountainous region, and the Bückeberg foreland, which belongs to the greater natural region of the Lower Saxony Börden, on the Stadthagener loess slope, which already belongs to the north German lowlands. The soils in the municipality of Beckedorf are characterized as loess soils by an extraordinary soil quality, in which high yields are achieved.

history

St. Godehardi Church

Traces of an initial settlement of the area can be found in the Dühlwald north of the Bückeberg several millennia ago. The fertile soil and the location on the old Hellweg led to the founding of the Beckedorf settlement, the "village on the Beeke " , in the 6th century .

In the history of its origins, Beckedorf is closely connected to the neighboring village of Lindhorst . Beckedorf belonged to the Hessian part of Schaumburg after the division of Schaumburg from 1647 to 1949 . On March 1, 1974, the merger with Heuerßen , Lindhorst and Lüdersfeld to form the Samtgemeinde Lindhorst , so that the 330-year separation between Lindhorst and Beckedorf came to an end. At the same time, it was reorganized into the Schaumburg-Lippe district . Since August 1, 1977, the community has belonged to the newly formed district of Schaumburg .

Characterized by high-yield agriculture, the place developed by 1890 with 120 houses to become the third largest rural community in what was then Grafschaft Schaumburg . After the Second World War, there was an increase in the population due to displaced persons .

During a severe thunderstorm on June 15, 1839, a tornado struck the village of Beckedorf. Two farms and one house were completely destroyed in the eastern part of the village.

Mining

In order to offer jobs to the local population in Rodenberg and Sachsenhagen on the one hand, but also to meet the increasing demand for hard coal in the region as part of industrialization, extensive geological investigations were carried out in the area between the Bückeberg mountains in the south and Bergkirchen north of today's Mittelland Canal from 1865 onwards carried out.

In 1874, these investigations led to the excavation of a tunnel that ran parallel to today's Beckedorfer Hauptstrasse, roughly from the location of today's Sparkasse, to the south into a field above Beckedorf. Further mining tunnels were driven north of today's federal highway 65 in the following years.

In 1911 the construction of the Beckedorfer Schacht hard coal mine began, which began mining coal in 1924. After the Second World War there was a breakthrough to the Georgschacht 8 kilometers away in Stadthagen (1946) and to the colliery in Lüdersfeld (1956) located four kilometers northwest of Beckedorf , which, in contrast to the colliery in Beckedorf, had a siding. From this point on, the coal extracted in the Beckedorfer Feld was transported by an underground coal mine operated by diesel locomotives to the extraction shafts several kilometers away and processed there.

The mining area of the Beckedorfer Schacht colliery stretched from Bundesstraße 65 in the south to the Minden-Hanover railway line in the north, as well as between the Kobbensen-Lindhorst road in the west and today's outskirts of Beckedorf in the east.

Although the coal seams exploited by the Beckedorf colliery were 90 cm thick compared to other German hard coal mining areas, the high occurrence of methane gas - in 1955 alone over 32 million cubic meters of methane gas were extracted in the colliery - made the production massive and always led back to days of shutdowns. On December 2, 1959, there was a firedamp explosion in the colliery , in which a miner was killed and 15 miners were injured.

In 1960, operations in the Beckedorfer Schacht colliery together with the other Schaumburg coal mines in Auhagen , Lüdersfeld and in the Georgschacht in Stadthagen were stopped and the shafts in Beckedorf were backfilled by 1962. The headframe of the Beckedorf shaft was blown up in 1970, the machine house of the Beckedorf shaft demolished in 1983. The other buildings, including the former laundrette, are now used by another company.

The closure of mining and the loss of many jobs in agriculture could only be moderately compensated for by the settlement of two industrial companies. Numerous miners found work in the potash districts around Hanover and in the industry there. Beckedorf has now become a conveniently located place between Stadthagen and Hanover for commuters.

  • The Evangelical Lutheran Christians belong to the Godehardi parish of Beckedorf in the Grafschaft Schaumburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover (while Lindhorst belongs to the regional church of Schaumburg-Lippe according to the historical demarcation ).
