Niedernwöhren is a municipality in the Schaumburg district in Lower Saxony . The municipality is the administrative seat of the municipality of Niedernwöhren and has 2012 inhabitants. The area is 11.06 km².
geography
Niedernwöhren is about 3 kilometers northwest of the district town of Stadthagen on the edge of the Schaumburg Forest . In the northern area, the municipality is affected by the Mittelland Canal . To neighboring community Nordsehl forms Reeke the border.
In addition to the main town, the residential areas Horsthöfe, Landwehr, Mittelbrink, Wiehagen and Wulfhagen belong to the community.
Neighboring communities are the communities Pollhagen , Nordsehl , Meerbeck and Wiedensahl in clockwise order .
history
The community was mentioned for the first time in 1232 in a body breed prescription as Nederen. It was not until the 19th century that today's spelling became established. A series of clearing farms in the Schaumburger Forest formed the starting chain of the place. In 1559 the Protestant faith was introduced.
In 1593, a witch hunt was carried out in Niedernwöhren (Amt Stadthagen) : the man Grimme got into a witch trial .
When the county of Schaumburg was divided in 1648, the place became part of the Lippe part and belonged to the city council. As early as 1766, Niedernwöhren was the largest village in the administrative area. Mittelbrink was founded in 1768 by Count Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe. The settled workers and craftsmen were given a twelve-year exemption from taxes. In 1876 a fire fighting association was formed with Meerbeck, Volksdorf, Hespe and Hobbensen. The year 1927 saw the establishment of the Niedernwöhren volunteer fire brigade .
In 1871 Niedernwöhren formed a rural community and belonged to the district office district Stadthagen-Hagenburg. Further stations were from 1899 to 1948 in the district of Stadthagen and from 1948 to 1977 in the district of Schaumburg-Lippe. On March 1, 1974 the merger with Lauenhagen, Meerbeck, Nordsehl, Pollhagen and Wiedensahl took place to form the integrated community of Niedernwöhren. Since August 1977 the community has belonged to the newly formed district of Schaumburg .

The sporting activity takes place in the Turn- und Sportverein (TuS) Niedernwöhren von 1912 eV. TuS operates the fields of soccer, aerobics, jazz dance, athletics, rowing, dancing, tennis, table tennis, gymnastics and volleyball. There are two sports fields, a gym and a boathouse at the Wiehagen harbor.

A specialty in the inland is the seamen's association Niedernwöhren und Umgebung eV from 1902 . In the absence of jobs on site, numerous workers went to sea as herring catchers from 1830 to 1967 during the fishing season. During that time, the Niedernwöhren area alone provided 104 captains. In order to cultivate the customs and also to conclude new employment contracts, the seaman's association was founded. To commemorate the seamen who died while working, a seaman's memorial was erected in neighboring Meerbeck.

Bundesstrasse 65 runs about three kilometers to the southeast . In east and west direction, the federal highway 2 can be reached with the junction at Bad Nenndorf or Bad Eilsen . The closest train station is in Stadthagen . Regional trains in the direction of Hanover - Braunschweig and Bielefeld - Rheine are reached here. The station is also the stop of the Hanover S-Bahn.
