The workers' estate Walddorfstrasse of the Hagen textile industry Gebr. Elbers AG in Hagen (Westphalia) was planned by the Munich architect Richard Riemerschmid . Her name is closely connected with the Hagen impulse and the great Hagen art patron Karl Ernst Osthaus .

In 1907, Riemerschmid received the order from Osthaus to plan the settlement with a total of 87 workers' houses and communal facilities such as a kindergarten and supervisor apartment, as well as the associated streets and adjacent squares. The different house types of the workers' settlement Walddorf with a rustic character, strongly influenced by the local style, were built from the gray limestone of the immediately adjacent quarries. The gables and eaves alternate facing the street. A back garden for self-sufficiency belongs to every house.

When construction began, however, the complexity of this architectural style became apparent, so that after the completion of 11 houses it was decided to discontinue the project. The beginning of the First World War also prevented further construction activities. Riemerschmid's plans were never completed and the Walddorf workers' settlement remained a structural fragment.

In 2001, the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum of the city of Hagen managed to rent one of the houses as a branch office on a long-term basis and thus make it accessible to the public for an interior tour.
