The Rathaus Wetter is a listed secular building in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Wetter (Ruhr) . The building is located on a hill about 33 m above the Harkortsee in the Alt-Wetter district north of the Ruhr . It is located between the historic settlement centers of Freiheit Wetter and Dorf Wetter on Kaiserstrasse 170, a former part of the B 234 .
The town hall , built at the beginning of the 20th century, still serves as the seat of the mayor and parts of the city administration . In 1984 it was included in the Weather List of Monuments . It is also a location on the Route of Industrial Heritage .
Building history
The land for the construction of the town hall was acquired in 1906 for 56,000 marks . Gustav Vorsteher , a local entrepreneur and councilor of commerce , had financed the construction as a patron and had it planned by his nephew, the Berlin government master builder Gustav Werner , and built from 1907. The town hall was inaugurated on December 20, 1909 in connection with the granting of city rights by Kaiser Wilhelm II.
The building, which is kept in the German Renaissance style, is equipped with a 43-meter-high tower and was made entirely of Ruhr sandstone . This was mainly obtained from the Albringhauser quarry Külpmann. There is a balcony above the portal with the nine-step flight of stairs . The steep roof and the spire are slated . Both the design of the council chamber and the entrance hall follow classic prototypes of German town hall architecture.

Freiherr-vom-und-zum-Stein monument
At the right corner of the front or on the south-western corner of the building is a bronze statue of Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein , which was executed in 1909 by the sculptor Richard Grüttner , made by the Berlin foundry Martin & Piltzing and also commissioned by Gustav Vorsteher . The actual statue on a sandstone plinth is 2.50 meters high and reminds of Stein's activity as an upper mountain ridge in Wetter between 1784 and 1792.
