The Herdecke Energy Industry Hiking Trail is a four-kilometer theme hiking trail in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Herdecke in the Ruhr Valley between the Harkortsee and the Hengsteysee .

The hiking trail created by the city of Herdecke in cooperation with the Ruhr Regional Association (formerly KVR) is based on the idea of the Herdeck history teacher and local historian Willi Creutzenberg. The Dortmund working group of the Förderverein Bergbauhistorischer Stätten Ruhrrevier , the Ruhrverband , the companies Mark-E (formerly Elektromark), RWE and DEW21 as well as several other organizations were also involved in the realization of individual stations along the way .

Stations along the way

The path begins on the north bank of the Harkortsee at the level of the mini golf course on the Wetterstrasse and then leads upstream to the Hengsteysee. The combined foot and bike path ( RuhrtalRadweg ) along the banks of the Ruhr is used. With the help of display boards, aspects of the energy industry are shown at a total of ten stations, from the promotion of primary energy sources to the generation of electricity through hydropower , the combustion of solid matter and gas conversion.
