The Friends of Mining Historic Sites Ruhrrevier eV is a history association with a focus on Ruhr mining in Witten .

The association was founded on June 22, 1982 in Witten . His tasks include looking after various mining trails . In 1982 the city of Witten entrusted the expansion and maintenance of the existing mining circuit to the association in order to save costs .

The association was soon expanded and new working groups were founded in Bochum, Dortmund and Unna. In the 1990s the Holzwickede working group and the Sprockhövel working group were added. Between 1999 and 2001, groups in Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Recklinghausen, Wetter-Herdecke and Mülheim joined the association as working groups. Hamm / Ahlen and Hattingen followed in 2011. The association is now represented with projects throughout the Ruhr area. In 2007 the friends' association celebrated its 25th anniversary. Klaus Lohmann has been chairman of the friends' association since 2005 . His predecessors were Aloys Berg, Max Kuhn and Rudi Soboll.
