Ulmcke and Wilhelm Beckmann (1839-1892) built in several construction phases from 1859 and until 1979 produced the Linden beers, which are well-known beyond the borders of Unna. The former brewhouse from the late 19th century, the boiler house and the Schalander building from the turn of the century and the chimney from 1936 are listed as historical monuments .

Today the Lindenbrauerei houses a socio-cultural center . Concerts, cabaret and exhibitions are regularly presented in the venues of the Lindenbrauerei. The offer is rounded off by a restaurant. Since September 2002 beer has been brewing again in the Lindenbrauerei; A naturally cloudy beer is produced in a house brewery, which is only served in the Linden brewery's restaurant, the Schalander . Events on the subject of "beer" are also held here on a regular basis. The beer academy and brewing seminars are just a few of them.

The Lindenbrauerei is part of the Route of Industrial Culture and has housed the Center for International Light Art since 2001 . The Center for Information and Education (ZIB) was opened on the site in 2004, uniting the adult education center, city library, city archive and other cultural and further education offers of the city of Unna.
