Eversbusch - Best Westphalian double juniper

In 1780 the baker Johann Christoph Eversbusch moved with his wife from Linderhausen (near Schwelm) to Haspe and settled there near what is now the town center. He was already burning grain there, but not yet any juniper brandy. His son continued the business and refined the art of distilling by training at the Harkort distillery. His son, Peter Christoph Eversbusch, got to know the recipes of double juniper , a juniper brandy , and corn anisette in Holland during the campaigns against Napoleon Bonaparte , in which he twice went into the field under General Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher as a volunteer Prussian hunter . In 1817 he married Karoline Schröder and moved with her into her parents' house on “Chaussee Cölln-Berlin” (today's Berliner Straße). There he built a large juniper distillery and also set up a brewery . Their son August enlarged the company, and their grandson Ernst modernized the distillery in 1907 and closed the brewery. Today the company is run by the seventh generation of the family, Peter and Christoph Eversbusch (since 1986).

The company administration is now housed in the original distillery building. The Bergische Haus, which was inhabited by the owner family until 1917, is now used as a “junior house” inn.

production

The company's main product is the so-called Eversbusch - the best Westphalian double juniper with 46% alcohol content, a brandy made from grain, malt and juniper berries. The spelling with the second "h" is not a misprint, but has only survived all the spelling reforms of the past. It is traditionally found on the labels of the brown clay jugs. The double juniper is also popularly known as Hasper Maggi . Other products are Eversbusch Korn-Anisette, a brandy made from star anise, and various presents as well as gift boxes and traditionally packaged presents in jute sacks. Since 2011, the company has also been selling the items via an online shop. Every year 70,000 to 90,000 bottles of the various products are manufactured, which are also supplied to retailers, but not to discounters.

Industrial culture

The Eversbusch distillery is part of the Route of Industrial Culture and can be visited in groups of 10 people or more by prior arrangement, with the current owners Peter and Christoph Eversbusch conducting the tours.
