The Ennepetal (Gevelsberg) station is a 171 year old stop on the main line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line . The former station building is one of the oldest of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia and has been a listed building since 1986 . The former train station and today's breakpoint is a stop on the route of industrial culture .

history

With the construction of the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1848 , a train station was set up in Milspe , today a district of Ennepetal , which was opened on March 9, 1849. The reception building was built in half-timbered style and clad with wood. Until 1954 the station was called Milspe , although as early as 1949 Milspe and Voerde merged to form the town of Ennepetal. In 1954 the name was finally changed to Ennepetal-Milspe . When the Gevelsberg station on the line was demolished in 1963, the neighboring town of Gevelsberg no longer had its own breakpoint on the Elberfeld – Dortmund line. The Ennepetal-Milspe station was renamed again in 1968 and, although located entirely in the Ennepetal urban area, has been called Ennepetal (Gevelsberg) since then , with the north side of the railway line representing the city limits in this area.

The Ennepetal (Gevelsberg) memorial association, founded in March 2010, has set itself the goal of promoting renovation measures and meeting the requirements for sustainable use of the building.

The stop is also only 150 meters as the crow flies from the former Milspe Tal or Ennepetal-Kehr stop on the Ennepetalbahn .

The track in the direction of Hagen could be reached at ground level for decades, while the track in the direction of Wuppertal can only be reached through an underpass . In 2010 the existing platform tunnel was extended in the direction of a lower-lying road and the entire tunnel was rebuilt. These systems now consist of ground-level access from the street, a road bridge to the P + R system and the station building, which is only used privately, a fixed staircase to the P + R system and a fixed staircase to the platform and an elevator that has been operational since mid-2011 . The converted central platform received two new platform edges with the standard height of 76 cm. This station allows barrier-free use of the trains of the National Express (RE 7) and the Eurobahn (RE 13), while the double-decker trains of DB Regio (RE 4) do not allow barrier-free use due to their floor height. Due to different track heights, the platform has a step at both ends that is secured by a barrier. The wooden platform roof was preserved and repainted.
