The bridge ensemble Union Street in Dortmund consists of two railway bridges over the Union Street, near the Dortmund U . It was completed in 1911 and is still in use today.
Between Treibstrasse and August-Heinrich-Schulte-Strasse, five tracks of the route of the former Cologne-Mindener Railway are led across Unionstrasse in one bridge structure. Further south, the seven tracks of the former Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn cross the same street.
During the construction of the Dortmund main train station in 1910, the rail tracks were laid east and west of the station up to grade- reach crossroads with road transport. The railway lines that flow into the station had previously led to significant obstructions at the gated level crossings, which in the immediate vicinity of the station were burdened not only by incoming and outgoing trains on the busy routes but also by numerous operational shunting trips.
The bridges were designed by the Dortmund company Aug. Klönne as riveted iron truss arch constructions in order to be able to keep the railway embankments as low as possible and still guarantee the required clearance - at least in the middle of the bridge.
Together with the nearby newer steel and concrete bridges, the railway overpasses are part of the route of industrial culture .
