The Zeche Westhausen was a coal - mine in Dortmund district Bodelschwingh .

The mine was named after the Westhusen Castle in the neighboring town of Westerfilde and began mining in 1872. It belonged to Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG (GBAG) and was always overshadowed by the neighboring large plants such as Zeche Zollern , Zeche Germania or Zeche Adolf von Hansemann .

The overall structural concept of the pit 1/3 can still be read today . In addition to a remarkable wages hall (1906 by the architect Paul Knobbe , the then head of the GBAG construction department), the Malakow tower built in 1873 above shaft 1 is particularly worth seeing, it has been repaired in small steps for several years. Pay hall such as Malakow Tower are registered as architectural monuments in the monuments list of the city of Dortmund .

The wash house to the east of the wages hall, which was architecturally no less remarkable, was so badly damaged in a fire around 1993 that the preservation authorities finally had to agree to the ruin being demolished.
