The transport museum Dortmund is located since 2001 in the former locomotive repair workshop "depot Mooskamp" (BWM) of the Ruhr coal rail and port operations in Dortmund district of Nice . Since the closure of the locomotive workshop of the former Prosper-Haniel colliery in Bottrop, the BwM has been the last former RAG depot still in operation. In this Dortmund project, labor and socio-political employment measures in cooperation with the job center and the city of Dortmund are linked to the creation of a pedagogical-historical cultural facility, which can also be used for private or company celebrations.

On approx. 8 km of the surrounding former Hoesch and coking plant tracks, historical Dortmund trams run to the neighboring Hansa coking museum in Huckarde and beyond to Ellinghauser Strasse in the northeast and Huckarder Strasse in the south. Since the route is not electrified, the tram vehicles are supplied by coupled generator cars .

At the beginning of 2013, the Ruhr Regional Association added the Transport Museum to the Route of Industrial Culture.

operator

The Bahnhof Mooskamp non-profit GmbH is a public railway infrastructure company (EIU) that was founded on July 5, 2007. The purpose of the company is to maintain the “Hansa” locomotive hall including the mine connection railway in Dortmund- Nette and to operate a local rail transport museum. As an EIU, it operates the train station and depot in Mooskamp.

The "Transport History Working Group of the Dortmunder Stadtwerke (VhAG DSW) eV" is a public railway company. The association has existed since 1979 and was called "Westfälische Almetalbahn eV" until mid-2018, based on the main line between Alme and Büren south of Paderborn, which was used from 1980 to 1998. There the club in Ringelstein had stationed the Dortmund GT4 No. 431, the bar car No. 713, the generator truck WAB 3 and a KLV51. These vehicles have been used for excursions and beer-dining trips in the Almetal for almost 20 years. Since 2008, the association has been running the museum's rail transport at the BwM and on the surrounding platforms of the Mooskamp gGmbH station. In 2018 the EVU renamed itself after joining the "Historisches Verein der DSW eV".

The plans agreed with the investor and the city of Dortmund for the conversion of the museum traffic and the dismantling of track infrastructures that are no longer required are currently underway.
