The Strobelallee is a street south of the center of Dortmund . It was named after the town planning officer Hans Strobel , who built the former Volkspark in Dortmund.

Emergence

According to Strobel's plans , the Rote Erde arena , the Volkspark open-air swimming pool, as well as practice and tennis courts , were built in the 1920s under the name Volkspark next to the Westfalenhalle as a large event hall for sporting use . The complex also included the rose terraces , the Volkswiesen, the light and air bath, the Ardeyblick allotment garden and the Theodor Fliedner retirement home.

today

Even if today's visitor seems as if there is not much left of the original Volkspark, on closer inspection (and with a little imagination) he will find that the main features of Strobel's layout are recognizable. The current Westfalenhalle is a new building from 1952, but it is exactly where the first Westfalenhalle was located. In addition to Westfalenhalle 1, eight other halls and the Parkhotel Westfalenhallen now complement the exhibition and event complex on Strobelallee.

The rose terraces, the Rote Erde stadium, where Borussia Dortmund celebrated its early triumphs, and the Volkspark open-air swimming pool have all been preserved. The Helmut-Körnig-Halle and the Westfalenhallen ice sports center were added . But large parts of the national parks had to the construction of the Westfalenhallen 2 - 8 and the the 1974 FIFA World Cup was built and now several awards and converted Westfalenstadion soft; the air and light baths, like parts of the Ardeyblick, became parking spaces for Borussia.

The Volkspark on Strobelallee changed over time and is still a magnet for many citizens today.
