The Hörder Castle , also known as Hörde , in today's Dortmund district of Hörde , was built in the 12th century as a moated castle in the immediate vicinity of the Emscher . It is the headquarters of the aristocratic Hörde family . Not far from the castle, at the confluence of the Emscher and Hörder Bach rivers, was an economically important flour mill.
history
The Hörder Castle and with it Ministeriale Albert I von Hörde are first mentioned in a certificate from Emperor Otto IV. (HRR) in favor of the Corvey Monastery . The historically significant castle tower, which has been preserved to this day, dates from this period.
At the end of the 13th century, the castle changed hands to the Counts of the Mark . They continue to expand the castle, later it is their base in the great Dortmund feud . In the course of the feud, Konrad von der Mark granted the village of Hörde town rights in 1340. In 1614, at the end of the Jülich-Klevischen succession dispute in the Treaty of Xanten , the castle fell to Brandenburg-Prussia . In 1505, the day before All Saints' Day, the castle burned to the ground; only the house of the lords of the castle and another building remained.
The Hörde office, established in the 15th century, and the seat of the Eichlinghof court are located at the Hörder Castle.
During the Thirty Years' War the Hörder Castle was occupied first by Spanish and then by Brandenburg and later by the troops of Wolfgang Wilhelm (Pfalz-Neuburg) . However, they were all evicted. But when the castle was occupied by French troops in 1673, a fire broke out in the castle, which partially destroyed the castle, the castle chapel and 38 houses in Hörde. The castle was later rebuilt on the old foundation walls. In 2000 the old masonry of the castle tower was exposed during work.
In 1840 the Iserlohn factory owner Hermann Diedrich Piepenstock acquired the Hörder Castle. He set up a puddle and rolling mill on the site. The Hermannshütte named after him became the first stock company in the metallurgical industry of the Ruhr area in 1852 under the name Hörder Bergwerks- und Hütten-Verein . The Hörder Bergwerks- und Hüttenverein later merged with Hoesch AG .
A bailey was built between 1920–1922 in the style of historicism and served as the administration building of the steel mill.
After the decline of the steel industry on Phoenix-Ost and the dismantling of the steelworks, a comprehensive renovation of the castle began in June 2008. In this context, archaeological excavations took place in front of the castle. A new wooden spire was built on the castle tower. On the day of the open monument on September 14, 2008, the building was the focus of the Dortmund events and could be viewed.
After the excavations were completed in 2009, the numerous finds and some relics of the “Hoesch era” were exhibited on the ground floor of the castle building.
The former Hoesch administration with the extension buildings is listed as a monument , the traces of the medieval castle are entered as a ground monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund .
In the immediate vicinity of the Hörder Castle, the Phoenix Lake was created , which was flooded on October 1, 2010 as part of a large festival. In the Hörder Burg, the Association for the Promotion of Home Care e. V. Stop a museum temporarily. The history of Hörder from the Middle Ages to the present day was documented here.
