Jänkendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1346, at that time still under the name Jenikendorff . In the 15th century, the goods were divided up, and until the 19th century the area was administered by several lords of the castle. In 1557 three von Nostitz brothers were living in Jänkendorf, and their descendants stayed there until the 18th century. After several changes of ownership (among others from Ferber, von Schönberg ) it came to Johanne Friederike Countess Reuss née. von Schönberg, then to a nephew of her husband. Eleonore Princess Reuß-Köstritz lived on Gut Jänkendorf from 1855 to 1884 .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Reichendorf was incorporated.

While numerous smaller trades settled, agriculture developed into the main occupation.
