Waldhufen is a Saxon municipality in the district of Görlitz , which belongs to the Diehsa administrative association . The municipality is located in the district of Jänkendorf , the association headquarters in the eponymous district of Diehsa .
geography
The community of Waldhufen is located in the central part of the district. It is located about 8 km south of the city of Niesky and 12 km west of the district town of Görlitz . It is located between the Königshain Mountains in the south and the forest and pond-rich Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape in the north. The landscape is mainly characterized by rolling hills. The community borders the localities of Jänkendorf and Diehsa on the Quitzdorf reservoir , where the Schwarze Schöps is dammed.

history
The community of Waldhufen is a new formation that emerged on March 1, 1994 when the independent communities of Diehsa, Jänkendorf, Nieder Seifersdorf and Thiemendorf merged. The name alludes to the existing form of settlement in the villages, which are laid out as Waldhufendörfer .
The place Jänkendorf was first mentioned as Jenikendorff in 1346, Thiemendorf was first mentioned a short time later in 1389. Diehsa was also mentioned for the first time in the 14th century and received market rights in 1670.

Since the municipal council election on May 26, 2019 , the 14 seats of the municipal council have been distributed among the individual groups as follows:
- Waldhufen voters' association (WVW): 10 seats
- CDU : 4 seats
Mayor Horst Brückner was re-elected in June 2015.
Memorials
A plaque on his former home in Thiemendorf commemorates the trade unionist and Hitlerite opponent Fritz Preuser , who was murdered in Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1942 .

Transport links
The federal highway 115 runs north of the municipality, the federal highway 6 runs south . The federal motorway 4 runs through the municipality and can be reached via the Nieder Seifersdorf connection . The Königshainer Berge tunnel , with 3.3 kilometers one of the longest motorway tunnels in Germany, leads through the Königshainer Berge near Waldhufen .
