Rittergut Jänkendorf (material entity) | Schulstrasse 6, 6a, 6b, 7; Ullersdorfer Straße 2, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d (map) |

The manor Jänkendorf, also known as the castle, has been known as a location of the regionally important Nostitz family since the 15th century. Together with Reichendorf, it once had a farm, and the sheep farm not far in the direction of Niesky is historically connected to it. The present mansion was built around 1725. It shows the deep, even mighty buildings typical of the high baroque, which are covered by likewise characteristic mansard roofs and form a three-wing complex in plan. Together with a park with a pond to the east and south as well as a large converted, almost square farm yard, the property forms not only historically, but also optically and structurally a core that extends beyond the local association and radiates into the region. It is an integral part of the special Lower Silesian cultural landscape, which, more than usual in Saxony, is characterized by manors and manor villages. In addition to the importance of the manor in terms of local and regional history, its architectural relevance should also be emphasized. It shows posterity the structural forms and materials typical of its time of origin. The mansard roofs - and of course the size of its overall shape - stand for the elevated importance and function of the building. The standing dormers are also historic, as a view that is around a hundred years old shows. Like some changes in the size of the wall openings, the roof pike that extends over the entire south facade is the result of a comprehensive reconstruction of the castle after a fire in 1958. However, these changes were made with a sense of proportion and are themselves historically relevant. |
