Remarks
- This list is not suitable for deriving binding statements on the monument status of an object. As far as a legally binding determination of the listed property of an object is desired, the owner can apply to the responsible lower monument protection authority for a notice.
- The official list of cultural monuments is never closed. It is permanently changed through clarifications, new additions or deletions. A transfer of such changes to this list is not guaranteed at the moment.
- The monument quality of an object does not depend on its entry in this or the official list. Objects that are not listed can also be monuments.
- Basically, the property of a monument extends to the substance and appearance as a whole, including the interior. Deviating applies if only parts are expressly protected (e.g. the facade).

↑ The history of the town and its various stages of development can still be clearly read from the structure of Reichenbach. Reichenbach was originally founded as a typical forest hoof village in the valley of the Reichenbacher water in the course of the high medieval colonization in the east. The village was on the edge of the Via Regia, the important long-distance trade route between Germany and Poland. This location prompted the Bohemian kings to set up a market in the center of the village in the 13th century, which from then on divided it into two halves. The urban settlement emerging around the market and the street, first designated as a city in 1306 (document in St. Marienstern), was an unpaved agricultural town from the 13th to the 19th century, which was only granted a modest development. It was repeatedly exposed to destruction, for example during the Hussite period, in the Thirty Years' War and most recently in 1813, as well as by fires in 1670 and 1729. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries there was extensive rebuilding of the town center, with the older cores the buildings (basement and rising masonry) have mostly been preserved. Only with the railway connection in 1847 and the subsequent industrialization did the city expand to the south. Overall, there was no major disruption of the old townscape, also because there were no natural limits to growth.
Rebuilds were carried out on old walls and old floor plans, so that the original city structure was preserved. Its core is formed by the closed development around the market, the old ring and the Görlitzer Straße as well as the lower and smaller farm buildings and the gardens behind the main buildings. A little to the side is the churchyard area with the church and the striking fence with the "Hussite Gate". The dominant market square could once have extended to the southern axis of the old ring, so the separating block of houses would have been created later. There should have been a few more side streets, of which only the names testify today (Viehgasse, Töpfergasse, Färbergasse ...). Overall, the area of the old town center was somewhat larger than it is today.
The front buildings are traditionally two-story and eaves. The fact that houses were gabled, which was widespread in the Middle Ages, has disappeared as a result of “house rotation” as a result of fire protection regulations. In the later 19th century, three-storey houses were built or increased accordingly, mainly on the north side of the market, but also on the Alten Ring and Görlitzer Strasse. As before, however, the two-story houses typical of the country town dominate. Often there are shops on the ground floors. Many facades point to the time around 1800, but (see above) often hide an older core. Eaves cornices are profiled several times, house doors usually segment-arched, more rarely wicker-arched with keystones. In some cases, there are cornices that visually separate floors. Overall, however, the facades are very simple. The gable roofs often show themselves without extensions, ie the former bat dormers to be assumed have disappeared, but modern extensions that go beyond the proportions are not so numerous either.
The public interest in the preservation of the protected area is based on the cityscape, which illustrates the history of its development, but above all on the exemplary and authenticity of the city structure. An example is the very rare planned development of a city directly from a forest hoof village, as happened here in the Middle Ages. This is still easy to understand for posterity today, because the two village "ends" still exist. The high documentation value of the zone to be protected results from the existence of the original urban structure. Basically, the city center also includes the town barns on Gersdorfer Straße, because they document, as do the enlarged house entrances in the protected area, that Reichenbach was an arable town. In order to preserve the significant structure and the typical town center appearance, it is important that these are not impaired by structural densification at their borders and behind the front buildings. However, it would also go against the uniqueness of this city center to demolish outbuildings and core zones.
