Rittergut Obergebelzig (aggregate) Am Schloß 2a, 4, 6, 7, 12 (Unterer Siedlerweg 1)
(map)
Around 1910 Material entity of the Gebelzig manor with the following individual monuments: former manor house (Am Schloß 7), the farmyard with all farm buildings and pigeon tower (formerly the inspector's house, warehouse, barn, distillery, horse stable, Am Schloß 2a, 6, 4, 12 and Unterer Siedlerweg 1), the Remains of a wall in the park (W) and the pond (see Obj. 09269173, same address) as well as the manor park (garden monument); Significant in terms of building history, local history and landscape design

The manor or castle (Ober-) Gebelzig, first mentioned in the 14th century, together with its farmyard and the park with pond in the north, is one of the oldest and most closed manor complexes in Upper Lusatia. At the same time, together with the church, it forms the historical and cultural core of the Waldhufendorf Obergebelzig. The two-storey manor house itself contains medieval remains and the interior still has baroque components. The classicistic-looking central projectile with lunette in the triangular gable and the portico in front with double Doric columns symbolizes the need for stately representation. The thick round towers flanking the building with Welschen domes, which undoubtedly refer to Milkel Castle and above all Moritzburg Castle, are unique in this context. They come from a major renovation in 1911 and 1912, the results of which determine the current appearance of the castle and are unique in terms of regional history. The extensive farm buildings, mostly from the 19th century, including a picturesque large pigeon tower, form a longitudinal rectangle with a side length of approx. 100 × 75 m. It is not difficult to determine from these dimensions that the complex decisively determines, indeed constitutes, the appearance of the site. With its castle, Gebelzig is an outstanding part of the series of manor villages that shape the special cultural landscape of the Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia.

  • The official list of cultural monuments is never closed. It is permanently changed through clarifications, new additions or deletions. A transfer of such changes to this list is not guaranteed at the moment.
  • The monument quality of an object does not depend on its entry in this or the official list. Objects that are not listed can also be monuments.
  • Basically, the property of a monument extends to the substance and appearance as a whole, including the interior. Deviating applies if only parts are expressly protected (e.g. the facade).
