New Castle (individual monument for ID No. 09269607) | Bergstrasse 19 (map) |
1901-1902 | Individual monument belonging to the Oberrengersdorf manor; of importance in terms of building history and local history.
The New Oberrengersdorf Castle, one of the largest mansions in Upper Lusatia, is located at some distance from the large estate, one of which was a side building (see Bergstrasse 11,12) which was the former manor house. The endeavor of the newly ennobled Julius von Rocandor, Edler von Nornenfels, to have a new neo-baroque building built in 1901/02 based on the model of the family's Hungarian headquarters, corresponded to his feudal need for representation. The mighty structure is crowned by a mansard roof and flanked by four round corner towers with a kind of Welschen hood. If the entrance still shows a stylized, convex-concave curved triumphal arch with flanking oculi, above which an enlarged arched window seems to indicate a Salle de Logis - all baroque motifs - the architecture on the garden / pond side experiences its climax in a semicircular central projection with two-barreled Open staircase, crowned by an ornate gable field and framed by a splendid, richly stuccoed loggia on the mezzanine floor, following the round. A forerunner of the modern are only the horizontal windows of the central risalits - attic zone. Much of the interior of the house has been preserved. |
