The Tibetan National Football Association (TNFA) is the football association of the Tibetan highlands in Central Asia .

history

The association was founded by Tibetan exiles in India in 2000 . Today the headquarters are in Dharamsala not far from the seat of the Tibetan government in exile , the seat of the 14th Dalai Lama 's Tenzin Gyatso . The association set itself the goal of organizing football tournaments and representing the interests of the Tibetan football team and the Tibetan women's football team. On June 30, 2001, a team led by TNFA played a football game on an international level for the first time. The friendly match at Vanløse Stadium in Copenhagen against the Greenland national football team ended in a 1: 4 defeat. In 2001 they took over the management and organization of the Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) , which has been held since 1980, in co-management with the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA). A year later in 2002 the sister of the 14th Dalai Lama, Jetsun Pema, became president of the association, who has since been assisted by Thupten Dorjee as general secretary and Kalsang Dhondup as managing director.

The Danish documentary filmmakers Rasmus Dinesen and Arnold Krøjgaard made a documentary about the association and the men's selection in 2002 under the title The Forbidden Team .
