Jetsun Pema ( Dzongkha རྗེ་ བཙུན་ པདྨ་ ; Wylie romanization rje btsun padma ; born June 4, 1990 in Thimphu ) is the Queen of Bhutan . She has been married to King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck since 2011 .

Life

Jetsun Pema is the second of five children of a pilot. She attended high school in the Indian Kasauli Mountains and then enrolled at London's Regent's College . There she studied international relations with the minor subjects psychology and art history .

Her wedding to King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck took place on October 13, 2011 in the Punakha Dzong monastery fortress .

On February 5, 2016, Jetsun Pema gave birth to their first child, a son, at Lingkama Palace in Thimphu. He is first in line to the throne. In December 2019, it was announced that she was pregnant again. She gave birth to the child, also a son, on March 19, 2020.
