The Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra (SOL) is a symphony orchestra in Vaduz , Liechtenstein .

In 1988 Liechtenstein musicians and music lovers founded the "Liechtenstein Chamber Orchestra". It is now called the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and is an integral part of cultural life in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The ensemble, which comprises around eighty musicians, is also active beyond the borders as a cultural ambassador for Liechtenstein. In order to promote international awareness even more, in 2012 it changed from a purely ad hoc orchestra to a professional ensemble with chief conductor, a symphonic subscription series comprising three concerts ("SOL im SAL") and a chamber music subscription series comprising four concerts (" ERLEBE SOL ”) as well as administrative management bodies, orchestra academy and circle of friends restructured.

Within three years, it was possible to significantly increase the artistic quality and the public image of the orchestra through increased rehearsals and concerts, an expansion of the repertoire, but also through introductory lectures, school visits and public rehearsals. The orchestra academy proved to be particularly helpful in the optimization process. Today, numerous positions in the ensemble are filled with current or former scholarship holders.

The three-part concert cycle “SOL im SAL”, introduced in 2012, and the new “ERLEBE SOL” chamber music matinees, quickly established itself as a fixture in Liechtenstein's musical life. The number of subscriptions rose steadily: in 2016, all symphony concerts were sold out. Due to the great demand, the programs of all three “SOL im SAL” concerts will now be played on two consecutive evenings in the 2017 season.

The concert repertoire of the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra ranges from classical music to the 20th century, with particular attention being paid to the musical work of the Liechtenstein composer Josef Gabriel Rheinberger . In 2014, his 175th birthday was commemorated with a series of festival concerts in Liechtenstein and Munich. As a long-term partner, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra also participates in productions on the Balzers and Vaduz operetta stages , acts as an orchestral part in performances by the Liechtenstein Choral Seminar and organizes an annual Friends' Circle concert in Schaan .

The Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra can refer to an artistic collaboration with famous soloists. Public magnets such as Ingolf Wunder , Martina Filjak , Maximilian Hornung , Arabella Steinbacher , Philippe Bernold , Emmanuel Ceysson , Ivana Gavric-Huys , Sabine Meyer and Radovan Vlatković increased public interest enormously. However, his role as an active promoter of young soloists was soon also appreciated. The orchestra regularly invites award-winning young musicians such as Andrei Ioniță , Kian Soltani , Noa Wildschut , Marc Bouchkov and Eva-Nina Kozmus to Liechtenstein. A number of young guest soloists have since made international careers, so that the orchestra has started giving many solo concerts to rising stars.

The newly created position of chief conductor was held by the Austrian conductor and pianist Florian Krumpöck until 2015 . In 2016 he passed the baton on to Stefan Sanderling . The Berlin-born new chief conductor of the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra also holds the same position with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra .

In his second season, Stefan Sanderling will conduct the TAK Vaduz World Classical Concert with Lars Vogt as well as all “SOL im SAL” concerts, which are programmatically linked by Schumann's three solo concerts for violin, piano and violoncello . The violinist Antje Weithaas , the pianist Aljoša Jurinic and the cellist István Várdai could be won as soloists for these concerts . In addition, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra can be heard at the Friends of the Concert with soloists from the region. Other orchestral activities in the 2017 concert season include Frederick Loewe's My Fair Lady with the Vaduz Operetta Stage, Georg Friedrich Handel's Saul Oratorio with the Liechtenstein Choral Seminar, four concerts as part of "ERLEBE SOL" and three concerts at the Vaduz Classic Festival. The Vaduz Classic Foundation, established by the municipality of Vaduz and the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, acts as the sponsoring organization for this festival.
