Maximilian Hornung

Maximilian Hornung (* 1986 in Augsburg ) is a German cellist .

He grew up in a family of musicians and attended high school near St. Stephan in Augsburg before dropping out of school at the age of 16 to devote himself entirely to music. He studied with Eldar Issakadze, Thomas Grossenbacher and David Geringas .

In 2005 he won the German Music Competition and in 2007 the ARD Music Competition with the Tecchler Trio , a piano trio he co-founded . At the age of 23 he received the post of first solo cellist in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra . He gave up the position after four years in order to devote himself entirely to his solo and chamber music work.

In 2011 he received the ECHO Klassik Award as Young Artist of the Year, in 2014 the Bavarian Art Prize and in 2015 the European Young Talent Award . Since 2017 he has held a professorship for violoncello at the University of Music and Theater Munich .
