Coaling is a city in Tuscaloosa County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

Coaling is located in western Alabama in the southern United States.
Nearby locations include Brookwood (2 km southwest), Vance (4 km east), Tuscaloosa (5 km west), Cottondale (6 km northwest), and Holt (9 km northwest).
history
The first western settlers reached the area of today's city around 1846. In the 1870s a railway line was built through the city area. The first church was built in 1878 and a post office followed in 1979.
In 1997 the city was incorporated. In 2011, parts of Coaling were destroyed by an EF-3 tornado.

In the north of the city runs the US Highway 11 , which leads over 2,647 kilometers from Louisiana to New York . A few hundred meters north of Interstate 20 and Interstate 59 run on a phased joint route .
The Tuscaloosa Regional Airport is located about 21 kilometers northwest .
Demographics
The 2010 census showed a population of 1657, divided between 429 households and 335 families. The population density was 117.3 people per square kilometer. 86.4% of the population were white, 11.4% black and 0.1% Indian. 0.5% were of a different ethnicity , 0.8% had two or more ethnicities, and 1.7% were Hispanics or Latin Americans of any ethnicity. For every 100 women there were 98 men. The median age was 35 years and the per capita income was 18,664 US dollars, which means that about 1.4% of the population lived below the poverty line.
At the 2000 census , the population was 1115.
