The Interstate-20 is an American interstate highway that after 2,470 kilometers parallel to the Gulf coast of Kent to Florence by the American southern states leads.

The following states are crossed: Alabama , Georgia , Louisiana , Mississippi , Texas and South Carolina . By far the longest section is in Texas, with 1020 kilometers.

Texas

Interstate 20 begins east of Kent on Interstate 10 . In the south of Pecos it meets US Highway 285 and near Odessa with US Highway 385 . To the north of the city of Big Spring, I-20 crosses US Highway 87 . Between Sweetwater and Abilene , US Highway 84 uses the route of Interstate 20. In Abilene, it continues to meet US Highways 83 and 277 . In Baird 20 I-crosses the US Highway 283 as well as Cisco to US Highway 183 .

In east Texas, Interstate 20 passes through the greater Fort Worth and Dallas area , known as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex . In this metropolitan area, after the junction of Interstate 30, it forms part of the southern ring and meets Interstates 820 , 35 (as I-35W and I-35E), 45 and 635 as well as US Highways 287 , 67 , 77 and 175 .

From the city of Terrell , US Highway 80 runs parallel to I-20. In this section it is north of Tyler on US Highway 271 and south of Marshall on US Highway 59 crossed. West of Waskom , the last city in Texas, the US 80 uses the route of Interstate 20 for about five kilometers.

Louisiana

With Greenwood , the interstate passes the first place in Louisiana and meets US Highway 79 in the east of the community . Shortly thereafter, I-20 runs through the greater Shreveport area . At Shreveport Regional Airport , the road passes Interstate 220 and Louisiana State Route 3132 , which together form a ring road around the city. In the center of Shreveport it meets Interstate 49 and US Highways 171 and 71 .

After Interstate 20 exits the Shreveport city limits, it continues eastward. In the north of Ruston it is crossed by US Highways 63 and 167 , in Monroe by US Highway 165 and near Rayville by US Highway 425 . With the crossing of the Mississippi River , the road reaches the neighboring state of the same name.

Mississippi

In the first Mississippi city, Vicksburg , Interstate 20 meets US Highway 61 . The road then runs for 55 kilometers through mostly rural areas before reaching the greater Jackson area , the capital of Mississippi. Interstate 220 branches off to the east of the city and Interstate 55 uses the same route for about three kilometers in the south . Furthermore, the I-20 meets the US Highways 49 and 51 .

Interstates 20 and 59 in Mississippi

Between Jackson and Meridian , the interstate crosses the Bienville National Forest parallel to US Highway 80 . From Meridian, Interstate 59 uses the I-20 route. It is also crossed by US Highways 11 and 45 . After 150 miles, Interstate 20 reaches the Alabama border.

Alabama

In Alabama Interstate initially runs in a northeasterly direction and meets at Knoxville on the US Highway 43 . In the south of the city of Tuscaloosa , Interstate 359 branches off and I-20 is crossed by US Highway 82 . The I-20 runs in a north-easterly direction parallel to US 11 and after about 40 kilometers reaches the suburbs of Birmingham . At McCalla , Interstate 459 branches off , which forms a southern bypass route around the greater Birmingham area. In the center of the city, the road meets Interstate 65 as well as US Highways 31 , 78 and 280 . South of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport , Interstate 20 separates from Interstate 59 and then runs east.

East of Leeds , I-20 is crossed by US Highway 411 and at Pell City by US Highway 231 . South of Riverside , the interstate crosses Logan Martin Lake . It also runs west of Heflin through Cheaha State Park .

Georgia

Interstate 20 reaches Tallapoosa, the first town in Georgia. It continues to run in an easterly direction parallel to US 78. From the intersection with Interstate 285 , I-20 runs through the greater Atlanta area , the capital of Georgia, and meets Interstates 75 and 85 and the US highways in the center of the city 19 , 23 , 29 and 41 . In the east of the metropolitan area, it crosses I-285 again and continues in an easterly direction.

Between Lithonia and Covington , US Highway 278 uses the route of Interstate 20. In the south of Madison it is crossed by US Highways 129 and 441 and east of Thomson by US 221 . The last major city in Georgia on I-20 is Augusta . Interstate 520 branches off to the west of the city and forms a bypass route. In the north of the city, the interstate reaches the state of South Carolina by crossing the Savannah River .

South carolina

In South Carolina, Interstate 20 first passes the city of North Augusta in the south and continues in a northeast direction. In the north of North Augusta it meets US Highway 25 , north of Aiken on US Highway 1 and south of Batesburg-Leesville on US Highway 178 . Between Interstates 26 and 77 , the road runs through the greater Columbia area . Within the greater metropolitan area, it is joined by US Highways 21 , 76 , 176 and 378 as well as the South Carolina State Route 277, which has become a freeway .

Interstate 20 at Florence

East of Columbia, Interstate 20 passes Fort Jackson to the south . South of Lugoff she meets the US Highway 601 , south of Camden on the US Highway 521 and south of Bishopville on US Highway 15 . After 2,470 kilometers, I-20 ends west of Florence on Interstate 95 .
