General information about I-45

Interstate 45 is the longest interstate that runs through only one state, but is the shortest major interstate (interstates that end in 0 or 5). In 2005, when fleeing from Hurricane Rita, a great many people were stuck on it. For a route that normally only takes four hours, many of them took over 24 hours. The tallest building between the two cities of Dallas and Houston is the 32-story Anadarko Tower, located about 25 miles (40 km) north of Houston. There are different freeway names for I-45. Between Galveston and Houston it is called the Gulf Freeway. Pierce Elevated has an intersection with Interstate 10 and an intersection with US Highway 59 and Texas State Highway 288 . From downtown Houston to Conroe, the Interstate is called the North Freeway. The Julius Schepps Freeway is the section between the intersection with Interstate 20 and downtown Dallas.
