The Interstate 26 (abbreviated I-26 ) is interstate highway in the southeastern United States . It begins on US Highways 11W and 23 in Kingsport and ends in Charleston on US Highway 17 .
Interstate 26 runs diagonally from north-west to south-east. This is unique because most of the other interstate highways in this area run north-east to south-west.
The numbers of the exits in Tennessee used to be opposite to the numbers of the other states, since the interstate used to belong to US 23 and I-181 . In March 2007 all numbers at the exits were standardized.
