The term north-west or north-west (NW) denotes a secondary direction that is the bisector between the directions west and north . The adjective for this is northwest .

In the sense of an azimuth or a heading , northwest is exactly 315 degrees . In common parlance, all directions between about 295 ° and 335 ° are counted as northwest . The sun sweeps this angle range in the northern summer from about 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. solar time . The sun is exactly in the northwest at 9:00 p.m. solar time.

Northwest is the most common wind direction in large parts of Western Europe - and the weather side in almost all of Europe . Therefore, a large number of trees have an approach of moss in this direction .
