The term northeast or northeast ( abbreviation NO, English NE) denotes a secondary direction that is the bisector between the directions north and east . In the sense of an azimuth or a heading , northeast is exactly 45 degrees . The sun is exactly in the northeast at 3:00 a.m. ( solar time ) . The adjective for this is northeast .

The region northeast of the center of a country, city or other location is also called the northeast region .
