Cottondale is an unincorporated community in Tuscaloosa County in the state of Alabama in the United States and is one of the southern suburbs of Tuscaloosa . Alternative names are Cotton Dale , Kennedale , Kennidale, or Konnidale .

history

Originally the place was called Kennedale in reference to Joseph Kennedy, a local owner of a cotton mill . 1876 the place along the lines of many cotton mills was (Engl. Cotton mill ) in Cottondale renamed.

In the late 1880s, the site was also an important center for the Knights of Labor . Here also worked, among others, Mary Harris Jones , an important leader of the labor movement .

Cottondale is located directly on US Highway 11 and about one kilometer north of a shared route on Interstate 20 and Interstate 59 . US Highway 82 also runs six kilometers to the west .

The Tuscaloosa Regional Airport is 14 kilometers to the northwest .
