Quitzdorf am See ( Upper Sorbian Kwětanecy při jězoru ) is a Saxon municipality in the district of Görlitz . The municipality belonging to the Diehsa administrative association was created in 1994 from the merger of two municipalities and was named after the village of Quitzdorf , which had to give way to the Quitzdorf dam .
Geography and traffic
The municipality of Quitzdorf am See is located in the central part of the district and borders the town of Niesky in the east . Quitzdorf am See is connected to the supraregional transport network via federal highway 156 in the west, federal highway 115 in the east and federal highway 4 in the south. The next motorway junctions to the east are Kodersdorf (junction 93; about 20 km away) and Nieder Seifersdorf (92; 12 km), and to the west of Weißenberg (91; 10 km). The railway line Węgliniec – Roßlau with a stop in Petershain runs through the community .
Quitzdorf am See lies between the Upper Lusatian Heide and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve in the north and the Hohen Dubrau in the south and is surrounded by a landscape rich in forests and ponds. The villages of Kollm and Sproitz are located directly on the Quitzdorf dam, in which the Schwarze Schöps is dammed.
Local division
The districts are Horscha ( Sorbian : Hóršow ), Kollm ( Chołm ), Petershain ( Hóznica ), Sproitz ( Sprjojcy ) and Steinölsa ( Kamjentna Wólšinka ). Horscha and Petershain are part of the official settlement area of the Sorbs .
history
The district of Kollm was first mentioned in a document as a village of Kollme in 1346. The name is of Slavic origin and should mean place on the hill . A little later, Petershain (1390) and Sproitz (1399; as Sprewicz ) were first mentioned in a document. It was not until more than 100 years later that Steinölsa was first mentioned in 1528 (as Steinöllß ).
In the Horscha quarry, where quartzite was mined until 1984 , graptolites from the Silurian were found in 1956 .
The community came into being on March 1, 1994, when the communities of Kollm and Sproitz (with the district Steinölsa) merged to form the community "Quitzdorf am See". The name was chosen deliberately to remind of the old Quitzdorf. On October 1, 1995, it merged with the Petershain community, to which the Horscha district belonged.
politics
