Bertsdorf-Hörnitz is a Saxon municipality in the district of Görlitz on the edge of the Zittau Mountains .
Geography and traffic
Bertsdorf-Hörnitz is located in the south of the district in the valley of the Bertsdorfer water between two mountain ranges over 400 meters high. The Mandau only flows through the Hörnitz district. The community is located about three kilometers west of the city of Zittau and borders directly on it. The community also has a train station on the Zittau narrow-gauge railway , which is, however, two kilometers outside the community area.
There are 6 bus stops (12 in total) in each of the villages , which are served by bus lines 1 and 4. Since 2018, the city bus line A to the Hörnitz district has been canceled.
history
Bertsdorf and Althörnitz were created as Waldhufendorf , Neuhörnitz as a forest strip village.
Hörnitz was founded in 1912 from Alt- u. Neuhörnitz formed.
The current large community was created on March 1, 1994 as part of the municipal area reform from the two independent communities Bertsdorf and Hörnitz. The community has received several awards in recent years, such as the gold medal in the Entente Florale Europa 2005 competition and the gold medal in the 2004 national competition. It was the most beautiful village in Saxony in 2003 and in the final round of the European Village Renewal Award 2004.
