Jürgen Israel
Jürgen Israel (born November 7, 1944 in Hörnitz / Oberlausitz ) is a German writer and editor .
Life
After an internship at Gustav Kiepenheuer Verlag Weimar from 1963 to 1965 , Israel studied Classical Studies and German at the University of Jena from 1965 to 1970. From 1970 to 1972 he was imprisoned for conscientious objection and was subsequently banned from working. After working for the St. Benno-Verlag Leipzig in 1973 - where he worked as publisher under the pseudonym F. Israel - after the birth of three children he switched to freelance work as a lecturer, publicist and author, which he has been doing ever since.
Jürgen Israel writes poetry, prose and essays. He has written works on Anna Seghers , Marie Luise Kaschnitz , Ilse Langner , Heinrich Alexander Stoll and Albrecht Goes , among others . In 1987 and 1988 the compendia In the Judgment of Poets appeared. Literature reviews from Opitz to Lessing and On the value of poetry. Literature reviews from Goethe to Fontane as well as the prose and poetry volumes Novembersonne (1988) and Friendship (2003).
Residency grants led Israel to the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf in 1999 , to Rheinsberg as a town clerk in 2001 and to Cața / Katzendorf (Romania) as a village clerk in 2013/14 .
Israel is a member of the Evangelical Regional Synod of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia and co-editor of the magazine Publik-Forum . Like Agathe Israel , he lives and works in Neuenhagen near Berlin .
